Clutter. Do you have clutter? Of course you do. We all do! Now that Spring is here, it’s time to DE-CLUTTER.

Here are some helpful tips from Guest Blogger July Minor on how you can do it the “ECO” way.

Too much clutter creates a very unpleasant environment to spend time in. All kinds of stuff lying all around in your home make the place look very messy and unwelcoming. That’s why it’s very important to de-clutter your place every now and again and free your home from all the annoying clutter. The best way to cope with the situation is to think and act green.

More and more people have started to show their concern for the environment by living in a green way that is ecologically-friendly. De-cluttering in an eco way is undoubtedly the most effective and efficient method to put your home in order without putting the nature in danger.

Here are our tips on how to de-clutter your house or apartment in an environmentally-friendly way.

1. Get Rid Off Clutter

The process of de-cluttering starts with getting rid of anything that you don’t use or need anymore. Collect all the items you are not planning to use ever again and put them at one place. Once you’ve collected all of them, separate them into different piles, according to their type or condition.

For example, make a pile of recyclable waste products, such as glass, papers, motor oil, plastics and batteries and recycle them. That’s a great way to de-clutter in a green way.

Make another pile of items that are in a very good shape and can be sold or donated. Such can be clothes, shoes, books, accessories, furnishing and many more. Decide whether you want to donate them, or at least some of them, while the rest of the stuff you can sell in a garage sale or on the Internet. You know that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. And it’s also a good way to put in use items you don’t need, which is a small step to helping the environment as well.

Another pile you could make is one of items that are not in such a good shape but can be put in use in some way, be it to re-purpose or reuse them. If you are keen on doing things yourself, you can use parts of old items you won’t be needing to make something new out of them and use them with a different purpose. That’s another great way to handle clutter in a green way.

2. Sort Things

Once you have gotten rid of clutter and have found a home for everything, it’s time to sort everything in your home. Put things in order room by room, starting with the one you spend most of your free time in. Put everything in its place as you go. This will help you make sure that you don’t get frustrated by wondering where to start from or get confused with all the things you have to do. Don’t forget to arrange your wardrobe. Take everything out of it, separate them by type, fold them and arrange them beautifully. Also, re-arrange your cupboards in the kitchen. Take everything out of them and clean the inside of the cupboards. Then put items back in, making sure that the ones you use the most are placed in a front position, so that they are easy to access. The same you can do with your shoe rack and bathroom shelves and cabinets.

3. Clean Up

While de-cluttering each room, it’s a good idea to also clean it as you go. When arranging your wardrobe, spray shelves with a detergent and wipe them with a dry cloth before you’ve placed your clothes back inside. Do the same with cupboards and other shelves in the apartment. Change sheets and clean the floor with a mop. Place dirty dishes in the dishwasher and do the laundry. You’ll see how much easier it is to clean the place step by step while you de-clutter it.

4. De-clutter Yourself

Now that your home is de-cluttered, clean and orderly, try and de-clutter your body and mind too. Pamper yourself with a nice massage, a hot bubble bath or a yoga session. This will help you in two very important ways – to detox your body and to clear your mind from stress and worries.
